As a fellow former Head of User Research turned Freelancer 4+ years ago, I recognize a lot of this. :) The software package part got me - it's definitely a less-fun part of the game to get flexible and integrate into clients' systems! But it also means we become better Swiss army knives over time. Good luck with the continued freelancing!
